Aquatics Coordinator- SWIM INSTRUCTOR & HEAD LIFEGUARD - SUMMER CAMP
Camp Olmsted, located in Cornwall on Hudson, New York, has been a cherished summer destination for campers aged 6 to 14 from New York City communities for over 120 years. Our wide range of activities, including swimming, ropes challenge courses, arts and crafts, kiddie’s kitchen, dance, theater, and sports, provide a dynamic and enriching experience for our campers.
We are currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as our Aquatics Coordinator- Swim Instructor & Head Lifeguard for the upcoming summer program. This is an incredible opportunity to make a positive impact on children's lives while enjoying a rewarding and memorable summer experience.
Position Details: Aquatics Coordinator- Swim Instructor & Head Lifeguard
Dates: Orientation: June 6th-8th, Leadership Training: June 16th-20th, and Staff Training/Camp June 23th - August 8th
General Responsibilities:
- Supervisory Role- Reporting to Senior Leadership with concise and direct communication.
- Supervise Lifeguard Team and Pool Schedule
- Maintains order and safety in swimming areas and assists in enforcing pool policies.
- Ensures and provides a safe, healthy & clean pool environment at all times.
- Consistent and vigilant monitoring of the pool is required.
- Responds quickly, efficiently, and professionally to any emergency.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all pool rules and regulations and can enforce these regulations.
- Prepares aquatic instructional equipment before classes begin and puts it away when lessons have ended.
- Provides corrective and positive feedback to campers to foster a positive learning atmosphere.
- Provides specific directions for swim aides and develops their knowledge, skills, and capability for swim instruction.
- Provides swim instruction to students of all ages, abilities, and skill levels.
- May work in other areas of the camp during inclement weather and hours when the pool is closed.
- Supervise campers throughout the day and evening.
- Escort campers to various activities.
- Lead activities as assigned or needed.
Qualifications (REQUIRED):
· Must be 21+ years of age and possess a current Lifeguard / First Aid / CPR / AED
· Must have minimum 2 years Lifeguard experience
· Must be able to work and reside on our camp facility through August 8th.
· Swim instructors must be in good physical and mental condition to provide lifesaving services.
· Ability to exercise independent judgment and respond calmly to high-pressure emergency situations.
· Ability to lift/move, set up, and store equipment and children weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Genuine interest in working with children.
· Fun-spirited and patient.
Please note that all candidates must be willing and able to live on the camp premises for the entire seven weeks of the program, including the orientation period.
